Is Obama Jesus?

In this video Tom Brokaw holds up an ∅bama button saying Attention Sarah Palin. Jesus Christ was a community organizer. Pontius Pilate was a Governor. Thus comparing ∅bama to Jesus. Well they do say he is The One We Have Been Waiting For. So maybe the connection is not so far fetched. Stupid maybe. Not far fetched.

Just another sign that ∅ and his friends don't understand Christians. How in the heck do they expect to get the Catholic Democrat vote with carp like that? Or evangelicals? Maybe they are trying to get a lock on the Unitarian vote or hope that they can lock up the Atheists for Jesus contingent.

They just added another point or two to McCain/Palin.

Now I'm Jewish and naturally have my reservations about the Son of God bit. But still, I know way better than to insult my Christian friends with shite like that.

Yet ∅'s "friends" think that is a winning slogan. ∅'s friends are his biggest enemies. Seriously. I couldn't think of a more stupid slogan in what is mainly a Christian nation.

The bitter clingers are not going to like that at all. At all.

And a lot of Blacks are devout Christians. What is he trying to do? Suppress the Black turnout? It is hard to imagine a more inept political campaign. In fact I have never seen one this bad in my lifetime. No doubt we will have to wait four more years to see something worse if the Gore, Kerry, ∅bama progression holds.

It is like they think religion is for the little people whose votes he doesn't need to win.

Of course the wags on the right have a really good counter slogan. Invoking Godwin's Law of course. Adolph Hitler was a Community Organizer. FDR was a Governor. We all know how that one worked out.

Thing is, the left's supposed pacifism stopped them from learning from Sun Tzu. They don't have a clear, objective understanding of their enemy. Even if you have a clear and objective view of your capabilities, the not understanding your opponent can make you fail about half the time.

Fun to see them shooting themselves in their collective foot though.

the other thing, Governor Palin was elected by the people of Alaska, the governor in the context of Jesus was sent from Rome to rule Judea. I doubt that the common people got any say so in that. Comparison is not apt. Hell, comparison is downright ridiculous. Somebody didn't remember their Sunday school stories.

Many of the Democrats do feel that “community organizer” Obama is equivalent to Christ — and (like the Sanhedrin) they're ready to impale him and stake him out to dry (“skewer him properly” as Big Tent Democrat in a posting at Talkleft yesterday put it) if “The One” proves different from what they imagine the Messiah properly to be.

Indeed, as columnist Mark Shields (who's been thoroughly in the tank for the Democrats for decades now) asserted on the Newshour with Jim Lehrer a few weeks back, while Republicans can come back after a presidential electoral loss to try again time after time, in the case of the Democrats each candidate for President gets only a single chance with that party (Shields doesn't even lament this supposed fact, but simply states it as a law of Democratic life). If so, why not crucify one who has proven (in their eyes), after his one and only anointed chance, to be a False Messiah?

Blademonkey: You're absolutely right; the people of a province had no say in what governor the Roman Emperor appointed.

Wasn't Pilate the guy who voted "present?"

Of course, other noted community organizers were:

Vladimir Lenin
Josip Stalin
Leon Trotsky

Lucifer was a Community Organizer™ - Saul Alinsky

Here's the Dowdified version:

Jesus Christ was a community organizer. Pontius Pilate was a Governor. Adolph Hitler was a Community Organizer. FDR was a Governor.
Applying simple logic without resort to religion or morality, the lesson would seem to be that (in this world, at least) community organizers lose out to Governors.

(Depending on which version of scripture is to be believed, even if Pilate only voted "present," weren't there "community organizers" working the crowd?)

I think most rabbis prefer the title "rabbi" to "community organizer," even today. St. Paul would come closer to being a community organizer - in both stages of his career - but even that's a stretch. Jesus did nothing like what a community organizer does, except talk outside. He specifically rejected the ideas of those around him who wanted to organize, the Zealots.

There is strong sentiment on the Religious Left these days to see Jesus as a revolutionary on behalf of the poor. The reasons for this are more emotional than logical. Jesus said encouraging things to the poor, and we say encouraging things to the poor, so we must be doing the same thing. It's rubbish. If anyone is interested in the topic further, I discussed it a lot last year at my site.

As to being a governor - well, yes. Whether good or evil, a governor has power and makes decisions. Why would that be significant in this context, other than trying to associate Palin's name with someone evil?

The button is actually an excellent example of progressive thinking: meaning via association and suggestion rather than logic. Consequently, it may work well on their people.

Greetings:

You can take the mayor out of New York City, but you can't take the New York City out of the mayor.

Mr. Brokaw, I'm sorry, no lunch today; it has already been eaten.

To Michael McNeil...

Not really sure that it's a good thing or not that none of the Christians on the left correct them on it.

Ain't holding my breath for it though.

Anon: I noticed the lack of comeback on that too. One would think that even non-Christians might be leery of going down that symbolic road.
