The Sermon
I believe McCain gave the best sermon I've ever heard last night and let me tell you why. Nothing says it better than giving the core of the sermon and then I'll touch on some other excerpts. Long ago, something unusual happened to me that taught me the most valuable lesson of my life. I was blessed by misfortune. I mean that sincerely. I was blessed because I served in the company of heroes and I witnessed a thousand acts of courage, and compassion, and love. That I thought was the most powerful and moving part of the speech. Blessed by misfortune. I think that is one of the very best lessons of life. To find out how to take misfortune and turn it into a blessing. Now how about some other good bits? On cultural modification of Washington: And let me just offer an advance warning to the old, big- spending, do-nothing, me-first, country-second crowd: Change is coming.Going after the enemies of the people: I've fought the big spenders in both parties, who waste your money on things you neither need nor want, and the first big-spending pork-barrel earmark bill that comes across my desk, I will veto it. I will make them famous, and you will know their names. On foreign policy: We're going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much...Economic plan: Cutting the second-highest business tax rate in the world will help American companies compete and keep jobs from going overseas. That is probably enough. You can read the whole thing at the above link or watch the video here. Cross Posted at Power and Control posted by Simon on 09.05.08 at 03:27 PM

McCain's story has the effect of making me feel like such a lightweight. Guys like him make me realize how easy my life has been. Steve Skubinna · September 7, 2008 04:14 AM I didn't watch the speech, but my husband, a retired USAF Defender, told me it brought tears to his eyes. I dislike John McCain for his open borders bullshit, but I respect and am in awe of his service to this country. Those who deride that service are the lowest form of scum. Theresa, MSgt (Ret), USAF · September 7, 2008 01:29 PM While I honor McCain for his service, others have given more. Patriotism is necessary, but not sufficent for election. Overall, I was rather put off by McCain's speech. Palin's was much better and more effective. Whitehall · September 8, 2008 01:16 PM Post a comment

I don't think the Obama people want that kind of change.
