Waiting To Cross The Line

No Quarter has this interesting bit of gossip:

I asked a friend who knows someone who has seen the video to Michelle Obama making disparaging remarks about "white" folks. You know, those angry God hugging, gun toting mouth breathers. He wrote me the following:
But there is a very strange air about Republican operatives. In the last three weeks, I've talked to real insiders in VA, GA, AL and here. They all remind me of a unit waiting to cross the line of departure on an attack. Quiet, determined, last cigarette, last "can of peaches out of the ration," radio checks, confident. They all use the term "safely nominated" when referring to Obama.
Six more days and then the real fun will begin. McCain has blunted Obama's momentum. Obama's troops are now milling aimlessly at the front waiting for supplies and new orders.

Once the counter attack begins it will be a slaughter. First a slash through the front lines and then tanks rampaging in the rear through the administrative troops.

For more of the military metaphor re: Obama see Housing War.

Sorry. Larry Johnson has less credibility than Jason Leopold, Doug Thompson and George Harleigh combine.

No Quarter is still pushing that "freind of a friend has seen the tape" nonsense? Yeesh. Give it up.

Yep. But I liked the imagery.

M. Simon   ·  August 23, 2008 11:51 PM

As the Instapundit says, the Hillary diehards sure have a lot of faith in Karl Rove and those eeeeevil GOP operatives.

Mike   ·  August 24, 2008 01:38 PM

I look forward to the bloodbath, but I am concerned. I hope the GOP operatives know they are dealing with a candidate in McCain who is guaranteed to totally screw up and royally piss off the base before this is all over. I just don't think he can help it; it's in his genes. Whatever savagery they do to Obama had better be sufficient to overcome a bunch of outraged conservatives as well as keep the independents and lure some Dems.

Peg C.   ·  August 24, 2008 01:40 PM

Ummmm .... couldn't we say that these Obama troops are like Spartans combing their hair just before the battle where they'll be slaughtered?

I mean, sure, they'll put up a good fight.

But .....

Passerby   ·  August 24, 2008 01:44 PM

Yes, I was along similar lines that McCain may well have been holding back for this and other strategic reasons.

Annoying Old Guy   ·  August 24, 2008 01:58 PM

Larry Johnson's "sources" are either non-existent or liars: This has been proved again and again and again. No Republican with brain cells was holding back plans because there was some chance the Democrats might kneecap the first black presidential nominee if he dipped in the polls.

This idea that SOMETHING is stashed away to damage Obama is nonsense. We'll just see more burrowing into attacks that have already been deployed - patriotism, Ayers, etc.

Dave Weigel   ·  August 24, 2008 02:14 PM

The GOP might have dirt on Jug-Eared Jesus, but:

(1) The "Whitey" tape doesn't exist; and
(2) It's hard to believe that the GOP would have absolute gold on Obama and the Hillary folks wouldn't. The Clintons were the masters of opposition research and personal destruction.

Don't hold your breath.

AK   ·  August 24, 2008 02:18 PM

Yes, it is hard to believe that the GOP has anything on Teh Obamessiah that Hillary doesn't. But there's timing to be considered. No one's actually been nominated yet and I wouldn't put it past the Clintons to hit O' at the very last minute with something nasty that might not even be true but is too late to refute. I wouldn't bet big money against Hillary quite yet..

"No Quarter is still pushing that "freind of a friend has seen the tape" nonsense? Yeesh. Give it up."

Well, if we don't see anything in seven or eight days, then you get to gloat.

Thomass   ·  August 24, 2008 02:51 PM

hey, the last two elections we all have seen the Dems pull out some surprises on the Thursday before Election Day, perhaps this time its our turn.

For all you kool-aid drinkers, in '04 it was the "missing bombs stolen under Bush' nose in Iraq" which was never heard about again after Election Day (and Mark Foley emails to an 18 year old) and in '00 it was Bush' 4,912,648 year old DWI.

What I find very interesting in all this is no one disbelieves that Michelle wouldn't say any racist remarks dissing whitey (crackers for you Southerners), it's pretty obvious she would. The 'gotcha' is, nahnahnahnah, you have no tape, can't prove it!

swift boater   ·  August 24, 2008 03:10 PM

I am still waiting for Bush to invade Iran -- Larry Johnson assures us all that it will happen any day now, and it seems like he has been assuring us of that since summer of 2006.

Anthony   ·  August 24, 2008 03:27 PM

For a party that is on track to get whacked in the Congressional election, trails slightly in national Presidential polls, and trails significantly in Presidential betting odds, the GOP seems awfully cocky.

I don't mean determined and upbeat. I mean cocky.

gs   ·  August 24, 2008 03:55 PM

gs,

Don't believe everything you read in the papers.

M. Simon   ·  August 24, 2008 04:25 PM

AK,

At this point Hillary is out to destroy the Democrat Party, not just Obama.

When is the best time to do that? After Obama is nominated.

BTW I expect a further fall off of the youth/hip hop vote with RAVE Act Biden. A real friend of rap music there.

M. Simon   ·  August 24, 2008 05:11 PM

I've been a reall supporter of McCain until today when I read in the news that he and his wife used MOther Teresa for political reasons and lied about her.

I don't see how that is being a good Christian.

It's bad enough that McCain cheated on his first wife, who waited for him to come home from Vietnam.

And it's bad enough that he is now a Gigolo for Cindy and can't remember how many houses he has.

But to lie about MOTHER TERESA? That goes too far for me.

"Annoying Old Guy · August 24, 2008 No Republican with brain cells "

ARE there such animals? I've never met one.

I certainly know that the life that Republicans care about the most have no brain cells. Republicans know that at least they are as smart as a fertilied egg so they identify with them.

Anonymous   ·  August 24, 2008 08:41 PM

Marcia C.,

Actually it was a Mother Teresa orphanage that used Cindy McCain to get a handicapped child the treatment she needed. The McCain's adopted the girl and brought another handicapped child back for adoption by another family.

Oh, yeah. Don't forget Cindy McCain is rich. And sells American beer for a Belgian company.

I mean just how low will the McCain's stoop? Using their money to help poor children.

M. Simon   ·  August 24, 2008 09:13 PM

Marcia,

I was a life long Democrat and strong Obama supporter until I heard he may have been having group sex with Frank Marshall Davis and his wife. And Davis admits to doing it with 13 year old girls. Was Obama involved?

What would Mother Teresa say?

M. Simon   ·  August 24, 2008 10:19 PM

It might seem unlikely that there is anything on Obama that the Clintonistas failed to find. But in point of fact, the Clintonistas didn't turn up Rev. Wright until several months into the primary campaign, and they didn't turn up Bill Ayers at all. Had Wright been in the news in December, would Obama have won Iowa?

I'd say the Clintonistas were lazy and complacent - and not especially competent.

Is the Republican "hit squad" any better? Who really knows?
