The Rev. C.L. Bryant, a black Tea Party activist who used to be an NAACP chapter president in Texas, said charges of racism are lies intended to further a liberal political agenda. ABC News quoted him as saying the NAACP wants to "create a climate where they can say that those on the right are in fact racist and those on the left are their saviors. This is very much what the liberal agenda is about." Blacks who show any signs of independent thinking do so at their peril. In August, Kenneth Gladney, a black Tea Partier from Missouri, was severely beaten by two thugs from the Service Employees International Union. The NAACP started a campaign to defend Mr. Gladney's assailants, saying the victim was an "Uncle Tom" who was "not black enough" to protect.
It wasn't the color of his skin that mattered. It was the color of his politics. You see he was selling this little flag at the rally.
But this is nothing new. It is just a new twist on a very old con.
There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs -- partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs....There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who do not want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public. - Booker T. I'd like to see an end to this game once and for all. The only people it benefits are the race hustlers.
This is a little off topic but you know, Mr. Washington's wise words apply to so many occupations - I'm thinking particularly of those divorced from any need to produce something that people would be willing to pay for of their own free will and where the need to keep bad news flowing might have ulterior motivations.
For instance, I've always wondered about this in relation to foreign aid and development workers. If they're successful, they're out of a job. One does wonder when you think of the billions of dollars spent and thousands of NGO's and aid workers who have toiled just in Africa over the last fifty years. And yet most of the countries there still languish in poverty.
Then there are the environmental doomsayers and organizations.

There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who do not want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public.
Take out race and substitute virtually any of the various problems the left wants to use government to solve, and you have the country's entire problem in a nutshell.
