You get what you pay for?
Take a look at this line. No, it's not to board a plane, or go through screening. (I'd already done all that, gotten my bag, and thought the worst was over.) That's the Seatac Airport's Budget Car Rental line, and it was far worse than any of the other lines -- as bad as any screening line I've been in, and I've been in some awful ones. You have to wait an hour to rent from Budget in Seattle, and the line just kept growing while I was there. There's an old saying that you get what you pay for, and there were no lines at Alamo, Avis, Hertz, or National. Only Budget. I've never seen anything quite like it. How much is an aggravating wait after a long flight worth? I realize Budget is cheaper, but I'm willing to pay more to avoid a line. The problem is, you can't just walk up to the other counters at the last minute and get a decent rate. Oh, well. Live and not learn.... posted by Eric on 07.23.09 at 08:29 PM

What? You say you had no second thoughts originally about going "Budget" because it was cheaper? But once you got there, it wasn't exactly what you expected? Shame on you. You are an experienced traveler. What this nation needs is some serious Budget Rental Car reform.! By September! Penny · July 24, 2009 02:37 AM Just wait at Sea-Tac until November, the train spozed to be finished by then. The Taxpayers of King County will sponsor you to a 75 dollar ride for six bucks. Don't forget to thank the poor suckers. dr kill · July 24, 2009 08:20 AM Eric - this is why I only use Hertz or Avis. Sometimes it's worth it to pay more. brian · July 24, 2009 08:32 AM the other guys want to rent cars too. i would have gone over and see if you could get a deal. newrouter · July 24, 2009 06:36 PM I rent from Budget all the time. I belong to their FastBreak program and when I arrive I walk past this mess to the garage kiosk where my car is ready to go. It costs nothing extra and is well worth it. I once waited in line for a rental car at LAX that took longer than the flight to get there! Never again. harkin · July 27, 2009 06:23 PM Post a comment

Airports are notoriously bad places to rent a car. Take a cab to another rental place (a car dealership perhaps?).
It will save you time and consternation.
