Just one more layer to the conspiracy!
911 Truthers will not buy this, but rationally minded people should: the NIST has had what should be the final say on the collapse of WTC 7. Evan at the Rogues Gallery has an excellent post highlighting the findings along with several sad examples of Truther denial and paranoia. Here's the link, but for some reason the whole Rogues Gallery seems to be broken, so I'll reproduce the post below: On August 21st, The National Institute of Standards and Technology released their report regarding the collapse of World Trade Center Building number 7 that occurred back on September 11, 2001. NIST Lead Investigator Dr. Shyam Sunder stated:"Our study found that the fires in WTC 7, which were uncontrolled but otherwise similar to fires experienced in other tall buildings, caused an extraordinary event. Heating of floor beams and girders caused a critical support column to fail, initiating a fire-induced progressive collapse that brought the building down. The conclusions reached in the report, based on science and evidence, have turned up the heat in the wacko 9/11 conspiracy realm. Unless you have lived in a cave since September 10, 2001, you know that the collapse of WTC-7 has been championed by the "9/11 conspiracy" crowd as part of the greater "truth" that the US federal government was behind all of the events of that day. Here is a mere smattering of comments concerning the NIST report from the ugly, reality-challenged side of humanity: posted by Dennis on 08.25.08 at 12:33 PM

But everyone knows fire can't melt chickenwire... jsb · August 25, 2008 01:32 PM The conspiracy theorists aren't going to go away any time soon. They're just wired that way. So, breathe deeply, count to ten (or some exponential value of 10), and be relieved that the 2nd Amendment still exists. John Burgess · August 25, 2008 03:43 PM "The same people who took down WTC 7 totally control the internet. *Nothing* gets blogged or posted without their consent. The messages you never know about are the ones you *must* consider. You'll probably never see this one, unless they get lazy." Someone should be fired for letting that be said on the internet! Heads must roll! Laziness will not be tolerated! Donna B. · August 25, 2008 04:50 PM Tell me again why you automatically believe what NIST says? To me, the saddest part about what has happened to our once righteous country, is that its citizens wait like baby birds with mouths open, happily feeding on whatever momma bird stuffs in. Unless we go seek our own food, all we receive is propaganda. It is this passivity on the part of many citizens that allows truly despicable actions to be covered up. An 'open mind' used to be valued. Now, it is ridiculed. Go figure. Ennealogic · August 30, 2008 08:53 PM You know, I thought being open-minded was a good thing, but people just blindly follow their so-called science and refuse to entertain the notion that I can communicate with the dead and bend spoons with my mind. We need a name for radicals who are blinded by science! They call radical Muslims Islamists, and radical Christians Christianists. So down with "scientists"! They'll always come up with "facts" to support their theories, or they'll be so weak as to modify their "theories" in light of new evidence! Shouldn't that prove something???? A while back, Bill Whittle wrote a great, and very long, essay on magical thinking and in it he gets at just how deeply offensive the 9/11 conspiracy theorists are, not just to the victims, but to the thousands of witnesses, investigators and rescuers who have done their individual bits of heroism to help us recover from that massacre.
