Neda Net
I was checking out the home page of Neda Net and came across this interesting bit: I'm Eric S. Raymond. Some of you will know me from the open-source movement as "ESR". Because of the real threat of terrorist action against us, most of NedaNet is keeping a low profile. I have volunteered to be a visible public contact because (a) I've done this sort of public-face work before, (b) I already got my jihadi death threat from Iran in 2006 before NedaNet, and (c) I'm not easily intimidated.Neda Net is of course named after this woman:  I think what is going on in Iran has passed the point of no return. I have heard rumors of rumblings in Iran. Rumors of people saying things like "Heaven help the Mullahs if we decide to take up arms." "I hope the Iranians are ready to take up arms and that someone is shipping them some." Some lathes, steel pipes, reloading equipment and supplies can be set up so one can have a small arms factory just over the border in either Iraq or Afghanistan. True, giving them guns already made would be easier, but with the setup mentioned those who have access to the information and raw material can keep themselves armed for a longer period than relying on shipments of small arms. Guns like Stens, the Erma EMP-44, the Polish Błyskawica are simple designs that can be made in a simple metal shop. If no one wants to intervene, at least give the Iranians the means to fight for themselves. That God created man, but Sam Colt made them equal should be taken into consideration. Thanks M! Raymond is sort of a god in the Open Source software movement, has critiqued squishy liberal platitudes about war, jihad, etc, pissing off some people, so I trust him.
I hope the Iranians are ready to take up arms and that someone is shipping them some.
