Via a link from Chocolatier, I'm glad to see that traditional, wholesome Stalinist values are still alive!
What a relief!
I know it sounds paranoid, but sometimes I worry that the old-time traditional Stalinism we once venerated might be over, and that kids have been infected with strange new values that aren't values at all, but mere economic hedonism, and even free market nihilism!
Which would be awful, as I need to have something to believe in -- just like everyone else.
No, seriously. Just look at my basement wall!
(If you had a wall like that, you'd need reassurances too.)

What is with the western music in the video? Have the North Koreans given up traditional values?
Kim Jong Il claims that he was born a log cabin on a mountain in North Korea in 1942. (In fact, he was born on a Soviet army base in Siberia.) According to North Korean school textbooks, on the night Kim Jong Il was born: "There were flashes of lightning and thunder in the sky, an iceberg in a pond near the log cabin emitted a mysterious sound as it broke apart, a double rainbow rose up, and a luminescent star appeared in the sky. Then a swallow descended from heaven to herald the birth of a general who will rule all the world." Gee! What an ego! All this story needs is 3 Wise Men bearing gifts. The "reconstructed" Kim Jong Il birthplace log cabin is a place of pilgrimage for North Korean children. It is considered a great honor to be allowed to visit the place.

I'll be curious to superimpose the images of the cheering, worshipful throngs at the start of the video with images of the crowds at Obama's inauguration. Something tells me that you will see a substantial resemblance: after all, the cult of personality has common substracts, regardless of culture or language.
I must admit that I learned something new from this video. I knew a little bit at the Juche philosophy developed by Kim Il-Sung, but I had not encountered this new "Songun politics" that was supposedly birthed by Kim Jong-Il.
I wonder if it is anything like the politics of "Hope and Change"?
