Civilization Comes First
![]() Commenter Mike at my post Republicans Need A Hawaiian On The Ticket said: It seems everyone wants to essentially surrender and put a RINO (or in Jonah Goldberg's case, an actual Democrat) on the ticket with McCain.I believe in conservative principles. Before the end of the first trimester abortion is none of the governments damn business. And I'm a Real Conservative™. Tobacco and pot are none of the governments damn business. I've studied the global warming science very carefully and from this engineer's perspective it is a total crock. None the less I'm a strong supporter of MCain. Despite my very Libertarianish tendencies. Make it harder for you to vote for McCain? You have no idea how hard it is for me to vote for the crap the GOP serves up to me. But you know there is a fookin' war on and my pet issues can wait until our civilization is properly secured. In any case the VP has absolutely nothing to do with making or signing abortion laws. If it can give us a win in any of the states I mentioned I'm for her. The election is going to be a dog fight and the MSM is white hot for Obama in a way they were not for Kerry (he did have their wind at his back). I want every stinking advantage I can get in the coming election. Even if it means giving up many of my most cherished positions and principles. Civilization depends on it. Rachel Lucas has it right: === Why? Because Civilization Comes First BTW Click on the Bumper Sticker to find out how to order some. H/T Instapundit Clayton E. Cramer has linked. Clayton is running for the Idaho Senate. If you are from Idaho give him your support. Welcome Instapundit readers. Exactly. RebeccaH · May 30, 2008 10:56 AM Yay! I am a slight lefty (more righty since 9-11) that is supporting McCain. I hope that there are enough righties like you that are willing to put the country first. I am dismayed that so many of the righties that I am counting on to vote for McCain appear to be willing to let Obama win to "punish" the USA. Last two elections I voted for Bush despite my disagreements on social issues (and eventually the endless spending) because I view the war as the most important issue. If we lose the war it does not matter what one's postition on global climate change, abortion, immigration, etc. is, as it will all be moot. But those evil lefties will have been shown whats what! Obama, in my opinion, will cost us the ever-improving chance of long-term victory in Iraq and boost the terrorists all over the world. Probably let the world experience the first nuke terrorism (and blame it on Bush, the West, capitialism, oil companies, anything but the actual terrorists) or worse. Yet there are so-called righties who are willing to sell out their country so they can claim that they were pure. Who cares if the terrorists kill a few million more; my opposition to abortion are more important than those unimportant human lives. Sounds like a lot of lefties who still want to run away from Iraq so they can claim that their long-term opposition was correct. If the righties stay home and Obama wins because of that; I will blame the righties and view them as unreliable summer-time allies who flee when the weather is not to their liking. Then my voting choices will be hard left and moderate left....while ignoring any of the unreliable righties. This&That · May 30, 2008 10:57 AM I'm voting for McCain or rather, I am voting against a very dangerous far leftist. Bobby Jindal is my candidate for future President, but if McCain chooses Romney this time around that's OK too. McCain will have a lot on his plate as Commander in Chief and Romney could take over streamlining government making our economy more competitive. Jindal will be President some day. No other Republican has his degree of talent and intelligence. In 2004, I donated happily and proudly to the guys who won the election the Swift Boat Veterans. This time around, I'm impressed by Veterans for Freedom. Just signed up with them. Look at what they've accomplished with one Internet ad. Obama now has to go to Iraq. Lastly, Conservative Grapevine highlighted freedom'senemies website which has a superb list of Obama's lies which is stunningly long and complete and the best intellectual ammunition one could ask for.

Sandra M. Mendoza · May 30, 2008 11:10 AM I am not willing to surrender the Iraqis who have sided with us to the slaughter that would come just to teach the GOP a lesson. Lesson learned! Find a way to not front load the process with open primaries. Personally, I think the Dem model looks pretty good right now. At least the whole party is being heard. BTW, I can't stand McCain's postion on global warming. He is against freedom of speech, I could go on. But Obama will sell out the US's credibility (who would ever trust us again) not to mention cheer on the oncoming train of a huge tax increase (remember those Bush tax cuts? I hope you do, because they are doomed.) At least McCain is likely to pretend to be against them. moptop · May 30, 2008 11:13 AM C'mon, civilization won't die if Obama wins. Maybe Iraq becomes a Killing Fields version 2.0. Maybe Iran gets a nuke, then terrorists, then Tel Aviv gets nuked. Maybe then the West gets serious, or maybe after the Jews go apeshit crazy and nuke Tehran and invade Saudi Arabia. Maybe Miami or Moscow gets nuked. And civilization won't be the same, again. F**k it! McCain 08! Tom Grey - Liberty Dad · May 30, 2008 11:40 AM Prediction: that Bumper Sticker becomes the Emblem of the McCain Campaign. You simply have to love it. The only way McCain can win is by running a "F**k This!" campaign against what is obviously one of the most prepackaged Empty Suits in the history of politics. Barack is the Piltdown Man Candidate. Period. section9 · May 30, 2008 12:00 PM I'm so glad for once that I live in New Jersey, so I won't have to vote for McCain and against Obama. If McCain is competetive in NJ, then he's rolling to an easy victory everywhere else. Either way it'll let me vote Libertarian with a clear conscience. Pax · May 30, 2008 12:51 PM Either way it'll let me vote Libertarian with a clear conscience. That is rather telling. In other words you are hoping your vote doesn't matter, but if it did you would vote McCain. M. Simon · May 30, 2008 01:07 PM I like Bobby Jindal but I think he should get through at least one term as Louisiana Governor before receiving the mantle of serious Presidential candidate. If nothing else, I think he owes that to his stricken native state. From what I have read, he agrees with me and is not seeking the Vice Presidency at this time. Unfortunately, I haven't been thrilled with any of McCain's Vice Presidential prospects. The Ghost of Ronald Reagan would out-poll any of them :-). D David H Dennis · May 30, 2008 01:26 PM I'm a 9/11 Independent voter, so this is how I see it. Both parties need a base of die-hards to pay the big bills and knock on doors. The most extreme of the two bases are equally nuts. They also tend to be crybabies who demand all their demands be met on their terms, or else they'll take their toys and go home. To win in the US requires a coalition involving a chunk of the center. Saying purity will win people over is as nuts from the right as it is from the left. The base should groom their own preseidential candidates and promote them in the primaries. If they don't win they should back the person who closest fits their positions. The more to the center the candidate the better chance of winning the general election. The more to the far left or right the less chance they have of winning. Do conservatives want to win or just feel vindicated when everything falls to crap? Emerson · May 30, 2008 02:01 PM I disagree with a poster above: the country should be punished for the way it's treated Bush for eight years. Eight years of Obama singing choruses of Kumbayah while the world goes to hell in a handbag is just what we need to remind us how much Carter sucked and how much we need another Reagan. The Republican Party stinks and needs to be reminded that its voters want smaller government. Bush was a huge letdown in that regard and McCain will be worse. Do not reward the current Republican Party with your vote. John · May 30, 2008 02:09 PM Do not reward the current Republican Party with your vote. Right on. A nuclear war with Iran later will be much better for the USA and the world than a conventional war now. And we know for sure Obama ain't fightin no wars. Al least the survivors are sure to vote Republican. And how about poking a stick in the eye of the fighting men and women who have stabilized Iraq. Who cares if they get screwed if it helps a Real Republican ™ win. http://www.classicalvalues.com/archives/2008/05/vets_for_freedo.html It is a wonder more people don't see the wisdom of your position. M. Simon · May 30, 2008 02:34 PM section 9 says "Either way it'll let me vote Libertarian with a clear conscience." Real Libertarians don't vote. Anonymous · May 30, 2008 04:03 PM I like Bobby Jindal but I think he should get through at least one term as Louisiana Governor before receiving the mantle of serious Presidential candidate. If nothing else, I think he owes that to his stricken native state. Yeah. I like what he says, but I need to see him deliver before I'm going to vote for the guy. And Jindal can do a lot more good as governor of Louisiana than he can as Veep. rosignol · May 30, 2008 04:29 PM I'll be voting libertarian. We need a new party to Dave · May 30, 2008 07:15 PM Nuclear war with Iran? (A) they have no nukes, and (B) they have no missile technology to deliver nukes to us. And let's assume they develop both - NK hasn't nuked us yet, for the same reason Iran won't - they would be utterly destroyed. The Iranians sabre rattle a lot (because having the US antagonistic towards Iran makes it easier for their regime to maintain fear in the populace, and thus retain power) but name one real occurrence of a country at such a gigantic strategic and military disadvantage significantly attacking another? Or are all these posts code for "Iran attacking Israel"? If that's the point, just stand up and say it - "America is Israel's protector" and then explain why we should be given how they treat us. (USS Liberty anyone? How about Jonathan Pollard? Every heard of Ben-Ami Kadish?) DMP · May 30, 2008 11:02 PM And as for McCain - the reason this registered Republican (who voted for Bush both times) won't be voting for him is very simple: McCain is intent on committing cultural suicide by importing millions and millions of people from Mexico and making them citizens. Once they have voting rights, we will have a permanent (D) majority, and will import millions more. That will be the death of America. If McCain loses, the Republican party will be the opposition party to the president, and when President BO or HC demands an amnesty, will be much more likely to fight it then when President McCain does. Hopefully the Republican party will also realize that crappy anti-free speech, anti-constructionist judge, pro-globalism, pro-amnesty candidates like McCain are not the way to win either. DMP · May 30, 2008 11:08 PM DMP, What about all those Mexicans America stole from Mexico around 1848? How did we survive the culture shock on the ranchero? Does it frost your chaps? And what is this anti- global stuff? You favor a flat earth? There are 92 elements needed for an industrial society. They are unevenly distributed. Trade has to be global. M.
