Today is Mother's Day, and as my mother died in 1999, all I can really do is remember her, and miss her.
Of course, if your mother is alive, you can do more.
While Mothers Day kind of artificially forces the issue (and it is commercialized), it's nonetheless a reminder not to take mothers for granted.
There wouldn't be an us without them.

My mother died in 2000, but I get great joy from wishing my daughters "Happy Mothers Day" as they raise their 3 year olds, their one years olds and expect a newborn in a few months.
The great thing about Mothers Day and Fathers Day is that it's not just a backward thing, it's a forward movement too.
I wonder how the Mother's of soldiers that died in the Iraq War are spending Mother's Day.
I wonder what President G.W. Bush got for his Mother on Mother's Day. You don't see Barbara Bush that much anymore . The last time I saw George Sr. he was crying about the job his son was doing running the Country.

Here in Berkeley, Code Pink had a Mother's Day celebration yesterday that included witches casting spells on the Marine recruiting center downtown. Really! The Marine office is closed on Sundays, and I don't know what any of this had to do with Mother's Day. Eye of newt, toe of frog.
