As the servant of three gay cats -- aka the world's weirdest love triangle -- I say they would make very odd parents. But that's because they're constantly fighting. If they were only a couple, they'd probably be okay.
One of the most maternal cats I've ever had was Pixel who was not just male but Heck, Yah, Male, as in ran all other male cats out of the neighborhood. Most male dogs, too. (He was uncertain on genetics, clearly.) My older son claims he was raised by two male cats, Pixel and Pete. Apparently my husband and I were secondary.

We have a mated pair of female rabbits that we call the LesBuns. All the neighborhood kids want to come over and pet them, but we only let them pet Emily because Lisa bites.
