A Victory For Cultural Conservatives
Maine has voted against legalizing gay marriage. And of course cultural conservatives are crowing. Or at least greatly relieved if you can believe the pictures. The final tally is not in but the numbers are running about 53 to 47 against. But Maine also voted on medical marijuana. And the results there are a little different. Mainers who use marijuana to relieve the symptoms of certain medical conditions will have easier access to the drug after voters approved Question 5 on Tuesday's statewide referendum ballot. So Gay Marriage is 53 to 47 against and med pot is 58 to 42 for. So maybe Maine is not quite so socially conservative after all. Maybe for marijuana or at least medical marijuana the culture war is over. Another interesting stat. As of this post there are 29 comments on the med pot story and 759 on the gay marriage story. Which more or less says that Medical Marijuana is a non-issue for voters. Now if only politicians could get that message. Especially the crooks in DC. H/T Drug Policy Forum of Texas Cross Posted at Power and Control posted by Simon on 11.04.09 at 02:35 PM

Veeshir: global worming; yes, I like that phrase. Not sure how I can work it into my conversations or blog posts, but I like it nonetheless. It's also entirely possible that people are starting to wake up to the fact that the Feds are not their friends. Both anti-gay marriage and legalised Mary Jane can point to the same trends - namely, we want this to be state initiatives, not imposed from federal government. You're nicer than I am. That would be the first thing I did. Well, second: first I would point out that he didn't campaign for them there. Joe R. · November 5, 2009 03:29 AM Post a comment

I have some very lefty friends in Maine, they're former Deany-boppers, I have no idea how they stood on Obama V Hillary, but I'm sure they're now Obambots.
They're freaking out today on facebook. Apparently, the gay marriage measure was defeated because of lies.
I'm not sure which lies, that's just understood, but it seems to me it's hard to lie about that. Either you want gay marriage or you don't. What's there to lie about?
I really, really, really, really want to point out that Mainers apparently side with Obama on gay marriage, they're still friends and if I've learned one thing, my lefty friends and family hate when I point out reality. You should see the global worming or hybrid conversations.
