I'm just guessing, but that "senator from Timbuktu" remark looks like a dig at Obama. It's very much the sort of "humor" an addled ex-Klansman would come up with.
BTW, does everyone realize that man is third in the line of succession to the presidency?

Palin doesn't lie and cover well, suggesting that it's unfamiliar to her. That's a good thing, though it's painful to watch. Byrd can lie and cover even when he's going senile, indicating that it's his default setting.
