Strange bedfellows, Phelps and Rall....

Move over, Ted Rall! Fred Phelps is your new competition!

The "REAGAN IN HELL" signs pictured here puzzled me at first, because the accompanying story (and the link in Drudge) said nothing about the demonstrators who held them. I almost assumed they were the usual leftists, but then I noticed that the signs were done in the same style as the ones waved by Fred Phelps and his followers at the "GOD HATES FAGS" rallies. Take a close look here and you'll see a clear resemblance. In today's story, the sign over to the right of the "REAGAN IN HELL" signs says "THANK GOD FOR AIDS."

Has someone's crossed Rall with Phelps? Or was Phelps ahead of Rall on this one?

A quick visit to the Phelps hate site discovered this flyer which confirmed my suspicions:

WBC to picket funeral proceedings of Ronald Reagan June 10 at the Capitol Rotunda and June 11 at the National Cathedral -- in religious protest & warning to a doomed nation:

Reagan is in Hell!

He betrayed the Great King! He gave America to sodomites!

Phelps thinks that being friends with Rock Hudson is a betrayal of America.

Which makes about as much sense as Rall's rantings.

But here's a comforting, warm thought: Rall and Phelps will be together for all eternity.

What an honor.

I hope Rev. Phelps pickets my funeral. If he dies before me, maybe I could have one of his kids do it for me. "God Hates Fags" "God Hates America" "God Hates Steven Malcolm Anderson the Fag-Lover -- Romans 1:32"

Phelps is going to be very surprised one day to wake up in Hell himself, same as all the Islamic suicide bombers expecting to be greeted by 72 virgins in paradise.

Phelps.is.no.Christian.
He's a Philistine. He.is.a.wicked.wicked.man.

and he WILL find out about the wrath of God one day.

It would be gratifying to see him suffer while still alive but wishing him to do so is not pleasing to the God I serve who commanded us to love one another (and not just the nice people who are easy to love). So I struggle to refrain from hating him and others like him but I've a ways to go. Nobody ever said Christians are perfect (and it would be a lie if they did). The thing is, it's the Phelps in our world who gives Christianity a bad rep. So many hate us because of Phelps and his ilk. My only weapon is prayer and a loving heart. I'm working on both of them. 8-)

Dear Jane M.:

Thank you! It's people like you who give Christianity a good name. Your God and Phelps's God are far from being the same God, and only a fool would dream of confusing the two.

I still think it would be an honor if Phelps saw me in the same light as he sees President Reagan.

Good investigating! Thank you!

The sign doesn't say "Thank God for Aids", it says "Thank God for Sept. 11" ... which is far more appropriate to the audience we at the Westboro Baptist Church were targeting last Friday.

BTW, those of you wishing to join with Reagan certainly will. You will curse each other bitterly as your faces are as flames of fire screaming at each other and gnawing your tongues in pain.

Toodles.

Well, that was a loving outreach from WBC sure to reach millions of sinners bound for the pit of hell. Spiritually refreshing, wasn't it?

I can't vouch for the above commenter's authenticity, but I think the real Timothy's on record as saying "God is hateful."

Many in the Mideast would agree; certainly the September 11 perps would.

(On the other side, eh?)

It just goes to show that all extremists are enemies of freedom, reason and decency, and make incompetent, dishonest, and unreliable allies in any struggle. MODERATES OF ALL NATIONS, UNITE! We have too much to lose, and a world to win.

Timothy:

I sentence you to the 9th Circle of Hell Where you Will Learn About Loss! Loss of Freedom; Loss of Humanity!
