All hail the year Six!
I can't believe it, but it was six years ago yesterday that I started ranting in this blog. These days I often feel like I've run out of things to say, but then something will come along and annoy me enough (or amuse me enough) that I just keep right on as if there's something still new. Aside from the futile quest for originality, the worst challenge that a blog like this creates is trying not to repeat myself after so many millions of words. (In that respect, and in many other respects, I'm so glad to have M. Simon posting here, as not only is he an original thinker, but he never repeats myself!) I think what keeps me going is that I do like having readers come here, whether they agree or not. Thank you all. MORE: I realize it is now technically "Year Seven," but I still like the feel of hailing the year six, hence the title. (Surely you're expecting me to say "ALL HAIL THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH...") posted by Eric on 05.16.09 at 08:17 AM

All hail co-bloggers. And congratulations on keeping your fine site up for so long. Alan Sullivan · May 16, 2009 05:26 PM Rob, your remarks are greatly appreciated. In fact, hearing that I leave you little to comment on makes my day! And Alan, you've been blogging longer than I have and kept it up against incredible odds. Truly inspiring. Thank you both! Eric Scheie · May 16, 2009 06:45 PM Often I do not comment because I have nothing to offer beyond "hear, hear!!" Then sometimes I comment anyway :-) Donna B. · May 16, 2009 10:33 PM Thanks! And Rob, Alan, and Donna: I am truly honored. You have made my day! BTW I seem to have a 40 year itch that began before I was married. My mate tolerates it as long as I look but don't touch (too much). A wonderful woman. M. Simon · May 17, 2009 12:41 PM Congratulations, eric, and thank you so much for deciding six years ago that you not only had something to say, but more importantly, that you were willing to share it with anyone who happens to stop in here at Classical Values. I am a VERY happy reader, and it is a rare day that I don't stop in here to see what you and Simon have to say about what is going on "out there", and really just to find out what is on your minds that day. I'm not sure how the rest of your readers approach a blog, but I can tell you how I do. When I find one I like? I keep coming back. Soon enough I feel like this blog takes on the feeling of a "room" on the internet. It feels both open and intimate at the same time. When the weather gets nice, I rather envision it as talking over the back fence, with you and Coco living on one side, and Simon on the other. How lucky can I be to have such great internet "neighbors". Thanks you two! Penny · May 17, 2009 08:12 PM Happy late anniversary. You kick more than a little bit of ass. chaika · May 19, 2009 08:17 PM |

Congratulations on 6 years of persistence and reason, Eric.
I've always enjoyed reading your posts on this site specifically because you were not prone to go on rants unless rants were in order. Your arguments are great example, and reminder of why reason rather than emotion, is the best foundation for discussion and debate. You are often very thorough in laying out the aspects of the subject at hand, and that leaves me little comment on, other than to write of my agreement.
I enjoy Simon's posts as well, between the two of you, I find someting interesting, witty, or challenging to read, and that causes me to check in daily.
