"The Obama Youth"????
Is this some kind of prank? Please tell me it is. I can't stand much more of this nonsense. You'd almost think they were inviting people to violate Godwin's Law. Seriously, I want it to be comedy. posted by Eric on 10.06.08 at 06:59 PM

They are so ignorant of history that they actually think they are inventing it. Phelps · October 6, 2008 08:49 PM If I were the superintendent of this school, I would be embarrassed that my students couldn't be inspired to be "the next [whatever]" by my faculty. lbphilly · October 6, 2008 09:48 PM This is nonsence, eric. So there! I told you! Feeling any better? Anonymous · October 7, 2008 12:30 AM So, because of Obama we're going to have wait another eight or ten years for the next architect or chemical engineer in America? About half of the kids need to say: "Because of Obama ... I put down the Pringles and Hostess cupcakes and actually got some damn exercise for a change." If only Obama's health care plan required lard-butted middle schoolers to burn more calories than they take in each day. Rhodium Heart · October 7, 2008 11:36 AM People who need a politician in a suit to be inspired and to feel hope have much bigger problems with themselves. This goes for all of the folks regardless of color or income saying he gives them "hope". son of brock landers · October 7, 2008 01:59 PM The one flaw in Godwin's Law is that sometimes references to fascism are perfectly appropriate. tim maguire · October 7, 2008 03:51 PM With all due respect to Mike Godwin, his famous "law" is only a rule of thumb. There comes a time when the comparisons are more than sufficient to validate the comparison, and invalidate the rule of thumb. I was specifically thinking of The Young Pioneers of the USSR, but most formerly communist regimes had equivalent groups of the young. So did Peron of Argentina, among others. But when I showed her this clip and the one of the young kids singing for Obama in Obama uniform, my wife said "Hitler Jugend". She wasn't wrong to make that comparison. She was just thinking of a different example. Dan Melson · October 7, 2008 03:57 PM Post a comment

Fox News reports:
The Junior Fraternity students studied Obama's economic plan with the teacher, and the superintendent did not know whether the teacher or the students scripted the routine. The group should have also studied John McCain's economic plan, the superintendent said.
In the video, eighth- and ninth-graders wearing military camouflage pants and navy t-shirts chant and perform a routine in the style of a step show, a dance popular among African-American fraternities at universities.
"People are upset that possibly taxpayer money is being used to support one particular candidate," [superintendent] McGautha said, "and now I can understand that. And I didn't condone them. I try very, very hard to remain within the limits of the law. I think this is unfortunate."
She said she was aware of the video, and that many of the school's activities are recorded, but that the teacher had been warned in a letter not to put it on the Internet. If he did, she said, he should seek legal counsel.

The teacher's fate will be taken up by the charter school's board, she said.
"Certain things don't happen in public schools anyway, but there area lot of other ramifications when you take it public," McGautha said.
"As far as [the teacher is] concerned, I think he gets what was supposed to come to him. But I don't think the children should be the victims of his stupidity."
I find it disturbing that the superintendent knew about the political indoctrination underway and only objected to it being made public on the internet. Now, she claims to be disturbed by the politicization of school activities. The fact that her charges have been indoctrinated to chant that "because of Obama" they will accomplish marvelous things in life is far worse than making it public.
