Unfair comparison
A friend just emailed me this picture from a German Mardi Gras float: I checked around, and there does seem to have been such a float, at the "traditional Rose Monday carnival parade in Duesseldorf February 4, 2008." It's one thing to joke about our elections, but must those mean Krauts make fun of pit bulls? I'm against such unfair stereotyping, and I can assure everyone that Coco would never bite Hillary on the butt. Just look at how peacefully and patiently she listened to the Hillary ring tone. What more proof do I need that my dog is anything but the butt-biting bigot portrayed by this vicious and insensitive float? Duesseldorf, please, cut it out! UPDATE: My thanks to Der Bloggenvater Herr Reynolds for the link, and welcome all! posted by Eric on 04.07.08 at 04:10 PM

Thank you, Portia! Yes, Coco is too smart to run for office, but she loves to have a little pork thrown her way.... Eric Scheie · April 8, 2008 03:47 PM Actually, to me, it looks like she's looking at you and thinking "why am I being forced to listen to the cackle of the wicked witch of the west?" Amy · April 8, 2008 06:41 PM this is such a dog bites man story... joel mackey · April 8, 2008 06:49 PM The question isn't whether or not Coco would bite Hillary on the butt. The question is would Obama the bulldog wear an American flag top hat? Richard · April 8, 2008 06:55 PM The cognitive dissonance of stars and stripes on Obama Dog have me confused. An insult to our great American dog to be so conflated with a closet bolshevik. Goober · April 8, 2008 07:01 PM If ever a dog's expression said "What the hell?"... RebeccaH · April 8, 2008 07:03 PM I can't think of a significant traditional carnival or parade in the U.S. that would consider it proper to waste money on a float ridiculing another nation's government (although the subjects, in this case, deserve all the ridicule they get). Why, that would be -- what is it they call us -- 'arrogant'? The obsessive anti-American bigotry on display in some quarters in Europe is absolutely pathological. Vinny Vidivici · April 8, 2008 07:23 PM Perish the thought! I'm sure that Coco is much too fastidious to bite the sorry arse of a mere Clinton. Anyway, she ( Coco not Clinton) would need immediate medical shots afterwards to protect her from contagion. Monty · April 8, 2008 07:36 PM Vinny - their obsession with us shows us we're still #1. I have decided that many of our most frequent critics - France, Germany, Canada - would rather be yelled at than ignored. Assistant Village Idiot · April 8, 2008 07:48 PM I'm with AVI. How else will they get noticed? M. Simon · April 8, 2008 07:55 PM The Germans haven't really mastered their racial sensitivity training, now, have they? OK, Hillary is depicted as a plump, blond hag, and maybe Germans know something about that stereotype. Senator Barack Obama is depicted as a dog. Oooo, totally not good. The nastiest racial put-down in American society is the representation of a man of another race as an other-than-human animal. That dog float is going to require some major apologies from everyone over there on up to Angie Merkel. Paul Milenkovic · April 8, 2008 08:00 PM Not sure what hurts BHO the most. Euroweenie's or Hanoi Jane's endorsement? I guess at least the "churmans" didn't sit in a AAA gun that might have shot Big Mac down. Maybe BHO's campaign will leak how he's been told many European heads-of-state prefer him over Mac. That worked out pretty well for John 'effin Kerry. LOL! arlo · April 8, 2008 08:04 PM I... I'm pretty sure that exposing a poor, helpless animal to Hillary Clinton's evil witch cackle is abuse and exploitation. Watch out or PETA will come for you! Coco is much prettier than the bulldog on the float. Also than Obama. Oh, and Hillary. And McCain.
I'd say "Coco for president" but she seems far too intelligent for the post.
