Karl Rove's Great White Hope?
It just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Well it does: It was clear from the op-ed that Rove wrote a few weeks ago that the Republicans, whose own candidates run the gamut from the ridiculous (Fred Thompson) to the psychopathic (Rudolph Giuliani) and the theocratic (Huckabee) have already begun to see finagling the Democratic primary race as their only chance. If O'Donnell happens to be a Democrat and he buys into this strategy, then the infamy is his.(Via Glenn Reynolds, and as I'm on my way out the door for a long drive, I might have missed the link had M. Simon not alerted me.) While the above leftie screed accuses Larry O'Donnell of being Rove-inspired for urging Edwards to get out of the race (and the writer supports Edwards), I think they're forgetting the clever, truly diabolical (and, as we all know, Dieboldian) nature of the Rove strategy. Treacherous as all of this was when Rove was officially employed by Bush, now that he's on his own he can be depended to operate without any oversight or scruples whatsoever! To quote from a famous military source: He's out there operating without any decent restraint, totally beyond the pale of any acceptable human conduct.Considering that reverse, double-reverse, and even triple-reverse psychology are standard tactics in the Rove arsenal, I think it's reasonable to believe that he secretly wants an Edwards candidacy, and so by creating the appearance that he's working against him (a simple task for anyone who knows how to push the predictable leftist paranoia buttons), he will actually help him. I'd send some money to Edwards in furtherance of the plan, but cheapskate Rove never paid me a cent, and he must owe me millions by now. Sigh. I guess I should have realized that something funny was going on when things were still in the "Operation Poof" phase.... Live and learn. posted by Eric on 01.12.08 at 07:27 AM

Consult Cicero's Second Oration against Cataline: "What prisoner, what gladiator, what thief, what assassin, what parricide, what forger of wills, what cheat, what debauchee, what spendthrift, what adulterer, what abandoned woman, what corrupter of youth, what profligate, what scoundrel can be found in all Italy, who does not avow that he has been on terms of intimacy with Catiline? What murder has been committed for years without him? What nefarious act of infamy that has not been done by him?" G. Weightman · January 12, 2008 11:13 AM Hart, What the hell are you talking about? M. Simon · January 12, 2008 11:45 AM The lefty Eric is dismissing is the Pulitzer Prize winning author Jane Smiley. She is absolutely correct. Edwards shouldn't drop out of the race. The rightwing attack machine will be less effective against him, than Clinton or Obama. Edwards will be talking issues, Republicans will counter with hair jokes. I'll be voting for Edwards in the California primary and I'm elated that my vbote will actually count this year. Thank you Arnold for moving up our primary. YogiBarrister · January 12, 2008 01:24 PM Heh, seems you have more liberal vistors now Eric then I previously remembered. All those Instalanches can do that I suppose. Funny that the woman finds Thompson ridiculous. The man with the most defined conservative designs for the position of the the President is ridiculous? Interesting. And thanks for that quote Weightman. CTDeLude · January 12, 2008 01:57 PM "Edwards will be talking issues, Republicans will counter with hair jokes." Having heard an Edward's supporter ahead of me in the grocery store line explain to her teens that "I'm for Edwards because he's against poverty" and when questioned further by her teens go on irritably "He's Southern and he's against poverty and I don't remember the details" I have to agree with Yogi. Edwards will be talking issues. Like how he's against poverty. And Southern. And doesn't remember details. And truly -- it's not just republicans that make hair jokes -- I'm a libertarian and I'm TRULY consumed with hair envy. I think every woman is. That could turn into a big issue for Edwards. I remember the punchline of some transvestite movie -- please tell me it wasn't tootsie -- was that the woman wouldn't lend the guy her clothes because he might look better in them. Well... I'm not sure I could -- under any circumstances -- vote for a guy whose hair is much, much better than mine. What if the trend spread? I could be the only human being with bad hair on the planet. P. Portia · January 12, 2008 04:13 PM Portia, nice try. John Edwards is talking about the issues, and in great detail. Of the top three candidates, he is the one rightwingers would least like to see get elected. That's good enough for me. YogiBarrister · January 12, 2008 04:42 PM Yogi - for libertarians, property rights are human rights. This stems from the recognition that one's most basic property is one's own body. Many libertarians do not support Ron Paul, either due to the issues you cite or the view that his foreign policy is naive at best, or both. Aristomedes · January 12, 2008 05:50 PM Aristomedes, the more I learn about Ron Paul, the more I don't like him. And you would be surprised to learn that I always begin my political deliberations from the libertarian point of view. I then move towards governmental control if I feel it's warranted. For example, I haven't moved from the libertarian position on marijuana(in fact as a former corrections officer, I wish the prisoners WERE stoned all day, better that, then having them pumping iron so that they can better assault me), but as far as crystal meth goes, I'm dead set against it. It's not just a personal choice because those meth labs are extremely dangerous, to the environment, and to the people who have to clean up the mess. YogiBarrister · January 12, 2008 07:27 PM Yes, Yogi, Silky Pony does have issues Like putting the IRS in charge of nationalized medicine and making sure that everyone has their mandatory annual health checkup. Silly us to think of American citizens as adults. Darleen · January 12, 2008 08:09 PM Yogi, My mother's position on Edwards is that he is empathetic and makes her hot. She is 88. Edwards actually put his arm around her in Iowa. Mom knows my politics - not too happy about it to say the least - and made me promise to blog it in her own words. I did. M.
