Out-triangulating Dick Morris?

According to John Leo, the likely 2008 Democratic presidential nominee is religious, wants to seal the borders, and now speaks in favor of abstinence.

(Ask Michael Moore about makeovers.)

The bottom line, of course, is whatever it takes to win. Socialism with a human face is still socialism, though.

Enh. Depends on what you mean by it. Bush is obviously socialist in some ways, but he's moving toward putting more and more market forces and ownership into that socialism.

It will be interesting to see where Senator Clinton comes down on issues like that. Of course she may not have to. A lot depends on where we are by 2007 or so on Bush's "Ownership Society."

I'll make this prediction: any Democrat who runs by pledging to dismantle anything substantially that Bush has done on that score will lose.

And look for them all to be totin' guns around in front of the cameras to try to fool us Pro-2A types. Kerry didn't fool us and neither will they.

Jimmy Swaggert? Harvey Bialy?

Jimmy Swaggart (for whom the Queen of All Evil once had 2 words....)? Harvey Bialy (to whom Dean has introduced us, artist as well as scientist). Dean Esmay and Jeff Soyer -- two of my favorite bloggers commenting here!

Funny about me and Hillary. When I first saw her on TV in 1992, I was turned on by her. After that election, however, I was increasingly turned off by her, mainly too much talk about "the children". For a long time after that, I agreed with P. J. O'Rourke's characterization of her as an "intellectual dust-kitty". But, recently, I'm re-thinking that. I'm still turned off by her, but I must admit she is very shrewd.

Both of the Clintons are very shrewd. I had better not underestimate either of them. I keep thinking of that stupid yard sign "Impeach Billary". ha! ha! Even P. J. O'Rourke thought that was a silly slogan. But, anyway, it is rather strange how so many people on the Right HATE the Clintons and especially Hillary. I have a book by a preacher on how she is the Anti-Christ. It's even more strange in a way how many people on the Left HATE Bush. Very much like the way they hated Nixon. The Clintons indeed seem in certain ways to be the Democrats' answer to Nixon.

What I'm seeing as strange about all this is that on most linear spectra, all of these hated Presidents, Nixon, Clinton, Bush, were actually in the Center and very close together. The John Birch Society, virtually alone on the Right, correctly identified Nixon for what he was. The libertarians were also galvanized by his statist policies. Jim Hightower and Christopher Hitchens, virtually alone on the Left, also identified Clinton for what he was. A few of the people you've linked to on the Right also hate Bush for the right reasons, from their point of view. This "triangulation" thing works very well.

I'm still not going to underestimate my enemies on the Right, Bork, Santorum, Coburn, etc., and I've really only begun to deal with them. And I have little but contempt for my enemies on the Left today, especially since they lost the election by a landslide, and not only the White House but also both Houses of Congress and the Supreme Court, not to mention the awesome power of the fundamental Protestant and traditional Catholic churches. Religion is, has always been, and always will be, the most powerful force in history, particularly traditional, fundamentalist, orthodox, doctrinal, dogmatic, full-blown faith in a Supreme Power of the Universe and in the eternal destiny of the soul.

But Hillary, in the statist Center, is still an opponent to be reckoned with as well. My ideal election 2008: Hillary vs. Condi. Perhaps Condi can help us create a Transcendental Femocracy.

I've got to continue writing that big post on 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional spectra, and, after that, at least one more big one.

I wrote:
"The Clintons seem to be in any ways the Democrats' answer to Nixon."

But, not with the same style! Nobody, except for the John Birch Society and maybe a few others I can't think of right now, has ever been able to match Nixon's style!

Steven, most people hate Hillary because she comes of as a socialist that she is. That said, please, please, please put up a Democratic presidential nominee who is religious. Reminds me of what Ross Perot did to papa Bush.

I sure liked H. Ross Perot. He had _style_! Joe Lieberman is religious, a Jew (sure to bring the crypto-Nazis out of the woodwork!), and hawkish on the War. Plus, contrary to my earlier impressions of him, he may not be anti-gun.
