Waiting For The Man

Here is a nice Velvet Underground clip complete with psychedelia. I saw them live at Winterland when The Velvet Underground and the Grateful Dead were on the same bill many years ago. Gone are the days.

You went to Winterland?!!! I loved Winterland! We used to go four or five times a year and see headline bands for $7.50 (in the mid 70's). I was a little too young to see The Dead or some of the other famous local bands of the 60's like Quicksilver or the Jefferson Airplane. My first concert there was in late '73. It headlined The Steve Miller Band who was warmed up by three little old unheard-of boys from Texas with Longhorn cattle horns on their amps.

Today the Bill Graham Presents Bay Area venue is the Shoreline Ampitheatre. It's a nice outdoor venue right next to the San Francisco Bay, but it's no Winterland where much more Rock N Roll history was made.

List of Bands I saw there before they became famous:

ZZ Top
REO Speedwagon
Peter Frampton
The Tubes (Tuesday's new local talent night)
Journey (Tuesday's new local talent night)
