Hitler hired Jews, claims respected Stalinist!

Here's Harry Belafonte on Adolf Hitler:

Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich. Color does not necessarily denote quality, content or value.
(Via the G. Gordon Liddy Show)

Belafonte's statement is an outrageous lie, but it was intended as an attack on black conservatives, so I don't expect to see it mentioned in my local newspaper -- or anywhere else in the Mainstream Media.

NOTE: If it appears in the Philadelphia Inquirer, I promise to correct myself.

Anyway, Belafonte's remark drew an immediate protest from Dr. Rafael Medoff, director of the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies:

"Some entertainers simply don't know much about history," said Dr. Rafael Medoff, director of The David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies, a research and education institute focusing on America's response to the Holocaust. "The fact is that there were no Jews in Hitler's hierarchy, the policies of America and Israel are not similar to those of Hitler, and African-American conservatives are not comparable to Nazis."

The Wyman Institute is urging the three entertainers to publicly retract their "inaccurate and hurtful" remarks about Hitler and the Holocaust. Dr. Medoff said: "Such analogies pollute public discourse, by trivializing the brutal horrors committed by the Nazis. Hitler was a maniacal dictator whose regime systematically annihilated six million Jews, and launched a world war that caused the deaths of more than forty million people. How can any reasonable person put Hitler and the Nazis in the same sentence as American or Israeli leaders, or black conservatives?"

In another interview, Dick Gregory allowed that black conservatives have the "right to exist," but analogized them to Nazis:
"They (black conservatives) have a right to exist, but why would I want to walk around with a swastika on my shirt after the way Hitler done messed it (the swastika symbol) up?"
I realize that Belafonte and Gregory are supposed to be entertainers, but I don't find such appalling ignorance entertaining in the least.

Considering allegations that Belafonte is an unreconstructed Stalinist, though, so I can't say I'm surprised.

I'd be surprised to see him apologize.

I'd be careful with any information that comes from Front Page News. The site is clearly the work of emotional right-wing fruitbats, and cannot be taken any more seriously than Worldnutdaily.

Oops, that's FrontPageMag. Sorry...

The article was by author Ron Radosh for the New York Post, and was reprinted by FrontPageMag.com and in other places:

I'm more interested in whether it's true. If Belafonte never said these things, he should simply deny them.

I'm an emotional Right-Wing fruitbat. Front Page Magazine is an excellent source of information on the Left.

I regret that I ever thought well of Harry Belafonte. Back when we were kids, before I had any ideology at all, we used to listen to his Calypso music. A little later, in 1968, when we were in 8th grade, our family went to a Eugene McCarthy rally in Seattle where we heard Harry Belafonte praising that Senator and denouncing America's War against Communism in Viet Nam. I was a socialist at the time. I have long since broken with socialism and Communism, turned to individual freedom and back to Polytheism, but I had no idea what a Communist Belafonte was and still is.

He's like so many, he can sing, but the minute he opens his mouth to say anything, out come words like this:

"Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich."

The Big Lie -- on a level with Holocaust denial, the legend that Hitler himself was secretly Jewish, the lie that Jews were behind the slave trade, that Jews stayed away from the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001, that Israelis are equivalent to Nazis, that Jews kill Gentile babies and poison wells, and all the rest of it....

Isn't it nice that Dick Gregory has given his blessing to the existence of Colin Powell and Condeleeza Rice? Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The reporter who did the interview was interviewed on radio this morning. He said that when he pressed Belafonte to explain, Belafonte broke off the interview. He said that B. was angry the whole time.

For Belafonte and Gregory, the old saying holds true: There's no fool like an old fool.

As far as whether he said it or not, it's on tape.

You're not likely to see this story in the MSM.

American Conservatives are too comparable to Nazis!

Nazis have arms and legs. So do Conservatives.

Nazis are mammals. So are Conservatives.

Nazis wore shoes. So do Conservatives.

The points of comparison are nearly endless!

What's worse, those scary Conservatives are comparable to Liberals and Communists, too!

The style of that!

I wrote:

Today, I would far rather praise that other Senator McCarthy -- the Senator who dared to stand against Communism.

Thomas Sowell -- I don't know if he can sing, but he sure can think. One thing you will never see in any of his books (e.g., Race and Culture, A Conflict of Visions, The Vision of the Annointed, Knowledge and Decisions, etc.) is a sentence like this:

"Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich."

Maybe we should be putting the holcaust and other human rights outrages into perspective and compare the Israeli treatment of Palistinians. True, it's not comparable in the methods, but it is a serious humans rights issue. I also find it rather odd that the holocaust was NOT soley a jewish solution, but artists, homosexuals, gypsies, slavs, communists and even Catholics were also sent to the gas chambers; and in the latter stages of the war the Nazi's didn't have the luxury of time to feed all of the perscuted peoples - including jews into the gas chambers - when a simple bullet in the head of a Russian child was just as effective in the last desparate days of war. Where in all the high-moral ground that contempory Jewry inhabit is the voice that says that genocide against ANY people should never happen again. Where is the Jewish voice condemning the genocide in the Balkans, Rwanda, Cambodia - all I here is the voice of the victim consciousness that seems to pervade the whole debate. As if it is somehow worse that Jews were persecuted, but it wasn't so bad that Artists, Catholics, Gypsies, Cambodians, Rwandans. blacks etc were also perscuted and killed because of who they were - either based on their religions, ethnicity, beliefs etc - What's the difference? Why should we be looking back on a horrible part of our history if we never use that to campaign against genocide and persecution in ANY form agaisnt ANY peoples ANY where in the world and not simply becaus they're Jewish? Jews are not the only persecuted peoples of the world, they're not the only dispossessed peoples of the world and yet they behave as if they are the only important people when it comes to persecution.
We need to develop a sense of perspective on this debate and get to the point that it is wrong to persecute ANY human being at all, whether they black, white, jewish, artist , gay, christian, muslim - whatever petty distinctions we want to make. We need to grow as a civilisation and as humanity and get beyond this, otherwise we are still perpetuating distinctions that say it is OK to persecute some peoples and not others.
