If your kingdom is crumbling, attack Bush!

The UN food-for-oil scandal is not being forgotten! Here's Claudia Rosett:

When U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan opined last week to the BBC that the U.S.-led overthrow of Saddam Hussein had been "illegal," two words came instantly to my mind: baby food.

No, I'm not comparing Mr. Annan's thoughts to pabulum. He is a smart man, adept enough that even in his BBC moment of condemning the U.S. (perhaps mindful that the U.S. is the U.N.'s chief financial backer) he took the trouble to blur responsibility for his own words, amending his use of "I" to the royal "we." Said Mr. Annan: "From our point of view, from the charter point of view, it was illegal."

It's unclear exactly whose collective view Mr. Annan thinks he was authorized to express, or under what terms in the U.N. charter he casts himself on some occasions as the hapless servant of the Security Council, and at other times, such as this, as the outspoken chief judge of world law.

There's much more, and I agree with Roger Simon's characterization of the Rosett piece as "blood-curdling":
It doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it in pursuit of an enemy who is supposedly worse than you are.

.....astride this world upside down, sits the Lord of Stonewalls, the slick king of the United Nations whose silver tongue and elegant manners mask a deviousness perhaps unknown even to him. We are in an era when lying to the self about the self has reached global proportions and takes place on a global stage. This man, Mr. Annan, who so many of us revered not so many years ago, now condemns the US action in Iraq while desperately hiding from view the complicitness of the organization he leads, the United Nations, in the horrors of that very dictatorship. Thankfully, Claudia Rosett is here to remind us of The Real World. Too bad more people aren't paying attention to the Oil-for-Food scandal, because it is the center of it all, the beating heart of global corruption.

Ms. Rosett's latest report... on the exploitation of baby formula for totalitarian profit... is perhaps her most blood-curdling

Be sure to read the Rosett report.

Above links via Glenn Reynolds, who will not forget about the worst scandal in the history of the UN -- even if the Old Media want us to forget.

In a post I wrote last week, I complained that the news reports like this made no mention of the UN scandal:

There's more in the article, as well as speculation that Annan's latest statements have something to do with the November election.

But I didn't see any mention of UN-SCAM -- the Saddam Hussein "Oil for Food" scandal which involves much of the UN high command as well as Annan and his family. Perhaps it wasn't considered relevant that the countries opposing the Iraq war were the same ones taking the bribes.

That's because, as Roger says, "It doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it in pursuit of an enemy who is supposedly worse than you are."

And we all know that the enemy wasn't Saddam Hussein; it was Bush!
