One of my major shortcomings is that I don't read as many blogs as I should -- and that especially means reading blogs which are new to me. For example, one of the Carnival posts links to this hilarious post offering a "Biblical Marriage Amendment." Intrigued, I browsed around and found a really fun test --the "Libertarian Purity Test" by Bryan Caplan. I pride myself in being as impure as hell, so I was intrigued.
The test gave me a score of 105. What does this mean?
91-130 points: You have entered the heady realm of hard-core libertarianism. Now doesn't that make you feel worse that you didn't get a perfect score?
I don't know how that makes me feel -- but considering that I have been called a "pseudo-libertarian" quite recently, being called "hard-core" would at least appear to be partial vindication.
But I reserve the right to be a heretical, compromising sellout if I deem it the best way to avoid worse horrors.

An example of libertarian purism that I once saw: Some Libertarian Party official somewhere said that his litmus test of who was a true libertarian or not was this: Would you allow elementary schools to sell drugs like heroin or cocaine in vending machines?
What was really uncanny about that is that, in my story, wicked Wanda advocated exactly that very thing as a joke! I had never dreamed when I wrote that that anybody in real life would ever advocate such a thing seriously!
Much less make it a litmus test for who is a libertarian or not! No wonder the Libertarian Party gets about 1% of the vote in Presidential elections. They've been around for more than 30 years now, since I was in high school. And, I've said this before and I 'll say it again: The Republican Party started out as a third party, too, but by the time the Republican Party was as old as the Libertarian Party is now, they had already fought and won the Civil War and we were coming to the end of Reconstruction.
