Classical Ohio
I am near Toledo, Ohio, right now, and I am "connected" to the Internet at a breathtaking speed of 12.0 Kbps! I think it is unlikely that any blogging will get done, but I am willing to try. Let's just call this an experiment. I want to be able to say I sent something from Toledo. My favorite song, "Every Day of the Week," was by an Ohio group, The Students, in 1957. Heard it on the way into Cleveland. Ghosts! A guy named Prez Tyrus founded the group, which had only that moderate hit, and then their falsetto singer landed in prison on a heroin charge. Typical American tragedy. Their tune from "Every Day of the Week" was later stolen and used by white boys as "The Bristol Stomp." Now the connection is 4.8. Thanks Susie, I am new to this, and I hope I did it correctly. It only shows "TrackBack" for this entry though. Hmmmmmm... Eric · July 31, 2003 3:02 PM Actually, the Students did manage a 1961 R&B hit - "I'm So Young", later covered by Ronnie Spector and by the Beach Boys. If I remember correctly, the first issue was in 1958 - and at some point, "Every Day of the Week" was on the flip of that 45.
CGHill · July 31, 2003 3:23 PM I have "I'm So Young" which was not as big a hit, nor in my opinion as good. (I thought it was the flip of "Every Day" originally.) It is very tough to get any solid information about this group, which just died on the vine -- and I have tried for years. Just totally lost in obscurity. If you know anything else, PLEASE let me know. Eric · August 1, 2003 3:48 AM |
