The question "Why was no one at the event packing heat?" has been coming up frequently with respect to the shootings in Arizona.
My guess is that those at the event were Democrats.
Yeah. Some Democrats are pro-gun. Like Rep. Giffords. But if you are looking for anti-gun folks you will have better luck sampling Democrats than sampling Republicans.
While I wish I had written it, the thanks should go to M. Simon!

Why was a Federal Judge at a political event?
Sounds like random chance that Roll was there when the shooting started, but was it appropriate?

The guy who tackled him was interviewed on Fox this morning. He was packing a pistol and was prepared to use--safety flicked off.
Probably a Republican, but no info.

Judges show up and say "hi" at all kinds of events. As long as he didn't tell the press or public he was going to be there, or do something that seemed to endorse the candidate one way or the other, it's not any sort of ethical breach.
He's still a citizen with a vote and a right to representation, after all.
Very good post, Eric.
